Stacey Arseneau ERYT500, YACEP
Stacey has devoted herself to the practice of Yoga since 2004, earning a reputation as a “Teacher’s Teacher” through her leadership of Yoga Alliance-accredited trainings at Nelson School of Yoga (NSOY), her Shala in the Kootenays.
With a foundation rooted in disciplined practice and a commitment to nurturing community, she guides students toward a deeper understanding of Yoga’s transformative potential.
In 2007, her exploration led her to the Ashtanga method in a modest Kitsilano apartment, guided by Chris Richardson alongside a dedicated group of practitioners. This self-led practice, steeped in camaraderie and mutual support, laid the groundwork for the community-centered ethos that now defines NSOY.
In 2009, Stacey joined the faculty at Vancouver’s renowned Semperviva Yoga and YYoga’s downtown Flow location, a fusion of traditions that included Kelly and Jason’s pioneering Flow Yoga.During this time, she immersed herself in Vijnana Yoga - inspired from the Iyengar tradition - drawn to its precision and vitality. This opened pathways to advanced studies in functional movement and biomechanics, including Gioia Irwin’s Tensegrity Repair Series, anatomical pro-section through Somatic Explorations, and the fascial fitness principles of Thomas Myers. Under the mentorship of Christine Clancy, a distinguished Iyengar and Vijnana Yoga teacher, Stacey deepened her mastery of Yoga philosophy and Pranayama practices.
In 2020, Stacey realized a long-held vision with the founding of Nelson School of Yoga in Nelson, British Columbia. NSOY stands as a sanctuary for holistic practice, where students engage with Yoga as a unifying discipline of body, mind, and spirit, enriched by a vibrant community.
Now, a dedicated student of the Kriya Yoga tradition, Stacey continues her studies with the teachings Roy Eugene Davis, who himself was a close disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda.Welcoming practitioners of all levels, from novices to seasoned students, Stacey creates an inclusive space where the teachings of Yoga are explored with integrity and grace.

Robert E. Livingood
My practice of meditation, strength training, nutrition, self-study, and nature immersion, has resulted in unshakable resilience.
If you know me, you know my life hasn’t been easy. I’ve overcome serious adversity. Each challenge has taught me more about who I really am and what I’m truly capable of. I live with meaningful purpose. My dreams are actualized.
I’ve pulled myself up from poverty, healed from vicious trauma, received a degree in science without even finishing high school, and studied grizzly bears in the wild.
Creatively, my music has been played by some of my favourite DJs around the world. My articles are published in major outdoor magazines, and I’ve traveled extensively in N. America’s wildest corners.
More than any of this, I have a tremendously successful marriage; filled with love and support. My wife Stacey inspires the hell out of me with the work she does at NSOY. We have a sweet family with Stacey’s daughter, our animals, and we live in our own little home in the mountains.
I share insights from the experience of my life through one-on-one guidance and coaching sessions. My aim is to help others who are struggling with addiction, mental and physical health, relationships, blockages in creativity, finding purpose, enacting personal change, and actualizing potential. I know that liberation is possible.
Reach out if you would like to re-orient yourself toward actualizing your dreams.

My journey with Yoga has come in cycles - I was introduced to mainstream yoga practice over 15 years ago as a way to support my mental and physical health.
I came to learn over time that the most effective way to move emotions through the body and process then was through conscious movement.
Over the past 5 years my relationship with the practice and teachings shifted. Practicing yoga and meditation proved to be one of the only therapeutic approaches that helped me manage my stress.
By immersing myself in the teachings of Swami Sivanada - through the Feminine (Swami Radha Yasodhara Ashram) and Masculine (Swami Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville) - I am finding my way home, to my body and opening a portal to healing myself I never imagined possible.

I’m so happy to be calling Nelson home after moving here in the summer of 2025.
My journey with yoga began in 1994 when my dad and I practiced traditional Iyengar classes together. In 2001, I discovered hot and power yoga and truly fell in love with the practice. Yoga has supported me through many sports injuries over the years and continues to keep me strong, balanced, and ready for adventure.
I’ve been teaching since 2008 and have completed over 1,000 hours of training in Vinyasa, Hatha, Kundalini, Prenatal Yoga, and Meditation. My classes are dynamic, fun, and light-hearted. I love inviting students to explore movement and breath in a way that feels both joyful and grounded.
For the past eight years, I’ve managed a thriving gym and yoga studio while raising my family. Outside the studio, you’ll usually find me in my kitchen, outdoors, or cheering on my kids at their activities.
I’m excited to connect with the Nelson community and can’t wait to move, breathe, and grow alongside you.

Melina Cinq Mars
My spiritual journey began in 2002 and continues to deepen through a lifelong exploration of consciousness and holistic wellbeing. For over 20 years, I’ve been self‑employed as a yoga teacher and Thai massage practitioner, guided by a commitment to embody and share the principles of balance, presence, and compassion.
I hold yoga teacher certifications from both Yasodhara Ashram and Sivananda Ashram, a Diploma of Vocational Studies in Human Resources, and a Shiatsu Registered Massage Therapist credential from Quebec, along with Thai Yoga Massage certifications. I am currently studying Acutonics and Somatic Therapy. Together, these diverse studies bring depth and a strong somatic awareness to my teaching approach.
My Hatha Yoga classes are playful and respectful, inviting curiosity and symbolic reflection through posture and process. I love to ask questions that help us know ourselves more deeply—cultivating trust in our own innate intelligence and opening pathways to greater healing and self‑awareness.
Over the years, I’ve shared my teachings in many settings—from yoga studios to McGill University, as well as organizations such as Le Ruban Rose (The Pink Ribbon) and numerous festivals and community events. I wholeheartedly cherish the opportunity to connect with students, creating a warm, supportive space that nurtures expanded awareness and ease in both body and mind.
As a mother and community‑oriented individual, I’m dedicated to fostering environments that honor the interconnectedness of all life and invite harmony within and around us. Outside the studio, I recharge in nature through hiking and skiing, and find daily balance in yoga and meditation. Cooking, dancing, singing, and dressing up for the sheer joy of expression are also some of my favorite ways to celebrate life.

Hello! I’m on this yoga — and life — journey right alongside you. I’m
deeply curious about exploring and deepening my practice, and I love
sharing space with others who feel the same pull to grow, reflect, and
connect.In 2024, I completed a 30-hour Yin Yoga training with Stacey
Arseneau at Nelson School of Yoga, which deepened my understanding
of the practice beyond postures and into the subtle, reflective
aspects of yoga. I recently completed my 200-hour teacher training in
December 2025.I always feel like the best version of myself when I have a steady practice — more grounded, more present, and more open. My hope is to create a space where you can experience that too.

While yoga-practice has been part of my life for almost 30 years, I’ve only gotten quite serious about my practice in the last few years.
The physical and emotional benefits I received from my practice motivated me to do a 200 hour teacher training at Nelson School of Yoga in 2025 and I am pleased and honoured to now be teaching classes here.
In my own practice, I’ve noticed the most profound benefits of yoga in the areas of nervous-system regulation, self-awareness and spiritual development and I create classes to offer attendees some of the same benefits.

Surya Adi
Hi . I am Surya Adi and I have been teaching kundalini yoga for about 10 years now.
Before discovering kundalini yoga, I was a serious student of Iyengar yoga for about 3 decades. So yoga is definitely part of my life path.
I have come to appreciate the effectiveness and speed with which kundalini yoga works. Especially when combined with an awareness of the impact trauma has on a person’s psyche and physical body.
The yoga is designed to move energy through the various energetic pathways with the aim of clearing out stuck or blocked areas so that the body can heal and function with optimum efficiency.
Basically we move stagnant energy to return the body to wholeness. Practice may look and feel a bit strange but always lifts your spirit and energy levels.

As an artist I’ve consistently been intrigued by the creative aspect of the asanas. In 2004, a Patricia Walden Iyengar VHS in my parent’s living room would be my first intro to yoga. This practice soon began to shape my life in all aspects and continues to guide me.
I found the path of Kriya yoga when Yogananda’s eyes from his bookcover locked on mine and I felt a bolt of energy flood throughout my body. After reading his autobiography, amazing and inspired, I began a deeper relationship with my mediation and spiritual practice.
In 2013 I completed my 200 hr YTT with Ashtanga and Anusara teacher Dan Clement through Open Source Yoga. And in 2025 completed my 300 hr YTT with teacher Stacey Arseneau here at Nelson School of Yoga.
I have been teaching in Nelson since 2013 at various studios but found my home here at Nelson School of Yoga in 2021.

Carli Winter
I was invited to my first yoga class by a friend around 2010. I came to it from a background of rigorous (truly) singing and sports, so the combination of breath-centred meditative movement really struck me.
Over the next few years of practicing regularly and attending various workshops to develop a deeper knowledge and connection with the yoga traditions, I realized it was time to fully dive in and take a training.
I graduated from the 200hr Teacher Training Program at YogaSpace in 2015, where I stayed on as an instructor and to continue learning in their Advanced Teacher Training Program. During this time, I was honoured to receive one-on-one mentorships with instructors of various modalities such as yoga, osteopathy, Thai massage, reiki, and pranayama.
Between the training in class, and time spent learning from mentors or supporting their classes, a genuinely new world opened up to me.
An incredible teacher of mine, Bibi Rahim-Hahn, would remind us at least once a class, "It's the breath that heals." which became the baseline for every class I lead.
I have completed trainings in breathwork, herbalism, energy healing, meditation, and trauma informed somatic therapy, all of which continue to heavily influence my approach and style of teaching (and life, let's be honest.)
